AVRDC-The World Vegetable Center, the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI), the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) are jointly organizing this first international conference on indigenous vegetables and legumes - IVs 2006.

MISSION

Create awareness on the importance of indigenous vegetables including legumes to food security, food diversification, and improvement of nutrition and health

PURPOSE

To create a forum of experts in the field of indigenous vegetable (IVs) and legumes research and development (R&D) for exchange of ideas and knowledge, and thereby promote:

 

Inter-institutional collaboration on indigenous vegetable and legumes R&D initiatives to increase synergy among centers and their partners,

  Assess R&D trends in the conservation and management of IV species
  Document scientific information available on R&D on IVs and legumes, and
  Develop strategies to promote the use of indigenous vegetables and legumes worldwide.
SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

The conference will have sessions where invited speakers and contributed oral and poster presentations will focus on the following themes on IVs:

  2. Genetics, breeding and biotechnology
  3. Indigenous perennial plants
